Gloucester is first settled by Europeans.

It is first settled by a 14 members of the Dorchester Company, arriving on the Fellowship, who established a fishing camp they call Fort Ann in 1623. After being joined by more members of the company, they abandon the site in 1626.* Other fisherman settle at nearby Annisquam in 1631 and Gloucester is incorporated in 1642.
